Four years before the Allied landing in Normandy, the French coastline was the scene of another major episode of the Second World War. This is Operation Dynamo, much less known today than on D-Day. And it is enough to recall some figures to measure the importance of this page of the history of the campaign of France: between the 27 May and 4 June, nearly 340 000 British and French soldiers were evacuated from the Dunkirk pocket by a motley fleet of 850 vessels, including hundreds of fishing, pleasure craft, Merchant Marine. Thanks to the courage of the sailors, but also to the efficiency of the Royal Air Force pilots, this unprecedented operation was a success that allowed the British to continue the war against the Germans, even if they had to leave Most of their equipment and armaments. In its context, Operation Dynamo is described here in detail, with many period photos, maps, aircraft profiles and uniformity maps. This military operation and unprecedented human adventure was revived 77 years later by British director Christopher Nolan, author of the Batman trilogy and Interstellar, who signed with Dunkirk an international co-production with a big show, to which a book chapter is devoted.
