Laure Dechamps, a twenty-year-old student, chose to write her final dissertation to study the collateral damage suffered during the last world war, in Pas-de-Calais, in the region of "Between the two caps". It is indeed there that as a child, she spent her holidays at her grandfather's. Chance or predestination, she is also the granddaughter of the photographer from Lille who had immortalized Laure and Julien before their separation. At the request of the mayor, Julien, initially reluctant, agrees to talk to him summarily about S.T.O. and resistance, then troubled by this girl who also bears the name of Laure, he comes to some confidences, first steps towards redemption. To help Laure in his research, he suggests to visit the English and German who now live in the village and who have undoubtedly experienced the war too, here or elsewhere. Later, Laure will contact Joe and she will get the address at the Hotel de la Plage. Thus, the four veterans haunted by their past will tell this young woman who discovers that their destinies have crossed in this small village at the edge of the sea, even if they have never met during the war.
